紓困案公投前夕，首都雅典有大批支持和反對債權人方案的民眾舉行示威，最新民調顯示，希臘民眾贊成紓困者佔44.1%，小幅超越反對者的43.7%。

大約兩萬5千名反對債權人方案的示威者，在憲法廣場集會，部分穿黑衣和戴頭盔的示威者向警方丟擲石塊，警方投擲震撼彈、施放胡椒噴霧控制場面，至於支持債權人方案的民眾，在距離廣場不到800公尺的體育場集會，大約兩萬人參加，示威者高喊「支持歐洲」的口號。

希臘總理齊普拉斯再次呼籲選民，不要接受債權集團脅迫，接受不公平的援助條件，他堅稱希臘不可能被踢出歐盟，唯有堅守底限，希臘才能繼續有尊嚴的留在歐盟。歐盟委員會主席「榮科」表示，公投不會增加希臘的談判籌碼，如果最後結果是反對債權人方案，將導致希臘政府在未來談判中更趨弱勢。
